Hugo Sanchez as their new first team coach.
Sanchez, 50, replaced Gonzalo Arconada, who was sacked just hours
after Almeria's 1-0 defeat away to Sporting Gijon on Sunday.
The Almeria website confirmed that Sanchez will be in charge of
the first team until the end of the season and if he is able to avoid
relegation, he will have the option to extend his deal for a further
season.
Almeria currently lies in sixteenth place in the Spanish Primera
Liga with only one win in the last 12 games.
Sanchez was sacked as the coach of the Mexican national team at
the end of March this season, but is better known for his career as a
player. He played for both Atletico and Real Madrid, scoring 218 goals
in 318 appearances for both sides during the 1980's and 1990's.
He is expected to take up his new role at the start of next week.
